Memoirs of a Beached Whale

Okay... so the end is near. Thirty-four and a half weeks of pregnancy bliss (hah) and a little over five more weeks to go. And, I am large- really large, I have to compare my existence to that of a beached whale. My husband has lovingly rolled me out of bed on more than one morning. I wanted to journal the journey of my gestation and recap on all the highs and lows of pregnancy.First Trimester...
I found out I was pregnant June 22nd, which was a total surprise. I had to hold the secret in for almost two weeks, waiting for just the right moment to break the news to Ryan. Finally, at the top of the Eiffel Tower, I sent Ryan into momentary shock, followed by complete elation. An official due date of Feb. 29th, 2008 was given, followed by a comparatively easy first trimester (meaning I didn't spend ten weeks puking my guts out, as I did with Davis).

Second Trimester...

It was so exciting to see the baby's little heartbeat for the first time! It is overwhelmingly joyful knowing what is to come of this little peanut in my belly. When I broke the news to Tatum, she was confused at first, but quickly took to the idea of becoming a big sister again... and possibly getting a little sister (but a brother would be ok too, she assures me). I felt the baby move at about 16 weeks... such a wonderful feeling! It makes everything seem so real and makes up for the last 16 weeks of queasiness, headaches, backaches, insomnia, and never-ending heartburn.

Third Trimester...

Even though I am getting enormous, I am happy knowing that this little baby inside me is growing and I will soon get to meet him or her. It is so exciting not knowing the baby's gender. I have agreed to let Ryan have complete naming rights over the baby if it is a boy and I get to name the baby if it is a girl. I know that the sleepless nights and the tribulations of nursing are around the corner... but I can't wait to meet the little one who has been elbowing me in the ribs, and finally hold the baby and smell his/ her sweet baby smell. Our family is so thrilled to grow in numbers and in love and we anxiously await for d-day.

You are not a whale, you are actually one of the smallest pregnant ladies I have ever seen! You cannot even tell you are prego from your backside! You are all tummy, it's what every pregnant lady dreams to look like! I'm excited to find out gender! :)

You need to print out what you wrote in this post and put in your new baby's BABY BOOK! Your child will treasure the words your wrote about your feelings and experiences during the time you carried him or her!

I love how you always use the term beached whale, because that is the term I would refer to myself when I was pregnant with both my boys and I'm sure enough that that term will be used soon with this pregnancy. But to all you readers out there who have not been around Melissa for this pregnant she is everything but a beached whale. Though you probably are extremely uncomfortable at this moment, you put on a great face because you look great and my dream would to look like you in five months. I'm such a whimp at the end. And by the way we can't wait for the little one either, I think me and Shelley are going to burst if it doesn't come soon so we can know if its a boy or a girl. Hey I love your new backdrop, I need you to help me with mine!

I'm so jealous you are on to number three! Way to be daring :) I'm still kinda scared of #3, maybe my kids are just a handful! Eden spent the whole day making Tatum a birthday card and we forgot to send it! So tell Tatum Eden says happy birthday 4 year old! and we will have to stick the card in the mail :) Miss you & good luck!

I see in your picture you are still wearing your wedding ring. You can't be that big ... I had to take mine off months ago. I think I could probably ditto all of the things you say about the pregnancy except I didn't start feeling her move until like 25 weeks. maybe I just didn't know what I was looking for. Your the experienced one.
Here's to the last few weeks of pregnancy! I'm hoping ours makes her appearance in the next week or so!!!!

You are seriously going to tick some people off talking like that... "beached whale". Right! I've done some thinking and I think most of the women modeling the maternity clothes are not really pregnant. You however could actually model maternity and look amazing doing it. So I'm with Niki and am thrilled to have a new tiny baby around to love. Can't wait!
